Otto Schade's Lava Gallery

Otto was born in Chile on the 30Th October 1971. He initially studied Architecture at the Bio University and Construction and Design Architecture in Concepcion, Chile. As a successful architect, he has been awarded for public and private projects.

Otto has always felt an avid fascination for the Surrealists, as well as the freedom which surrounds abstract painting. This influence has made Otto turn his creative skills to painting, which has become his strongest passion and for which he has also been recognized with an honorable mention.

With the development of this other talent, Otto begins a journey in the search for new ideas and wider exposure for his work, taking him to exhibit his work in Concepcion (Chile),Berlin (Germany), Moscow (Russia) , New York (US), Amsterdam (Netherland) and finally to London (UK), where he is currently living and working.

Otto’s painting ranges from abstract and surrealism to even urban art. Working mainly with oil paint and traditional supports such as stretched canvas, he also practices other techniques such as collage, illustration and stencil. The themes behind his compositions read in a personal, metaphorical sense with a sharp, ironic touch.

Otto’s painting shows a unique style, proving an inventive imagination as well as a refined technique.

In January 2011 he had his SOLO Exhibition of graffitis and drawings in Lava Gallery in London, UK. Due to the success of the exhibition it will be extended till the end of January. You still have time to see it. LAVA Gallery, 1.11 Kingly Court, Carnaby Street, London, W1B 5PW

ok so pow 2011 has been recorded and is set to be released in 2011 but the real question is . dose it live up to the original track and who came the hardest on the tune.

The original that was made by Lethal B consists of such old-school legends as Fumin , D Double E , Napper , Neko , Flodan , Demon and a few of fire camps mcs. The original beat was produced by Dexplicit and the 2011 version was remixed by Silencer aka Teddy. The 2011 track features Jme , Wiley , P money , 2Face , Kano , Ghetto ,Chipmunk and Pmoney featuring as well as the creator Lethal b

i personally think the new version will never hit as hard as the original as for its time it was a pioneering tune although i can still get hype to the new version i think Jme and Wiley went in and if that hype was carried out throughout the whole track it could possibly have the same impact that the original did.

(Part of the Dubist family) was first known to man handle mics at "Some Night" and the early Dubist events where she made herself known. She will ALSO be featuring on the "We Are Dubist" EP set to be released in the new year under Congo Natty Records and We Are Dubist Records.

DUBIST FEATURE IN "STAND UP UK" INTERVIEW

As you are probably aware, members of We Are Dubist are also making simultaneous movements in the UK Hip Hop scene, one of them being Potent Whisper. He talks about Dubist in this interview with Stand Up UK.

Today we welcome an artist who started his music career in the streets of South West London and recently moving to the coast city of Portsmouth. We see how his move has affected his music and a little more about the artist known as ‘Potent Whisper’.

So Potent Whisper, how’s things?

Things are here and there right now, but projects are plentiful and look promising.

For those who don’t know tell us a little about yourself.

Sure, born and bred in South London into a Greek Cypriot and Irish family. I am a lyricist and Hip Hop artist focused, primarily, on using Hip Hop to achieve positive change, socially, politically and even spiritually. Human rights and the need to fight for venerable people has always been in my character, the spirit most probably instilled by my mum, and this is something I continue to practise as a member or The Peoples Army alongside many others.

So where did it all start? What/Who made Potent Whisper?

I came to realise one day that no matter WHAT I achieved in life, however great, the reality is that in the grand scheme of things I would be no different from any other person. My mark wouldn’t last forever. It was from that realisation that the analogy of the whisper came about. If we’re looking at history with regards to being a sound, my voice will only be a whisper. Nevertheless, I can still Stand Up and do what I can. (To be potent) This left me with the statement...
“In the decaying cries of history, I am but a potent whisper.”

Did you always have a love for Hip Hop? Or was it something that became a part of you?

I’m sure many will agree when I say; Hip Hop isn’t just a type of music or an art form, it is a way of life and a mind set. I’ve always possessed it. With regards to the music I mainly listened to Rock and Metal up until the age of 15, but I always had an affinity with words as a kid through writing poetry. It was when I became acquainted with DJ Mileage in 2005 that I was introduced to what I feel to be Hip Hop, Immortal Technique and Aesop Rock. The fusion of hearing Techs’ politics and A.Rocks’ flow for the first time at the same time was definitely when I acknowledged and began to embrace Hip Hop.

So let’s focus on 2009, this was a big year for you.
You dropped your first EP that drew attention from two HMV branches in London, can you tell us a little more about the EP?

“Meta – Phorplay” was completed and made available on the 1st June 09. It’s a five track E.P with one Grime and one Dubstep track but its primarily Hip Hop. For a small period it was on HMV’s shelves in Croydon (More out of luck and perseverance than being approached myself!) However there wasn’t, and still isn’t, anywhere near enough hype around my name for them to sell half decently so they were removed. Truthfully, I don’t really think that was a bad thing. I have progressed in a next way since that, and I think at this stage of my “career” I would be doing myself a type of injustice by letting people hear that as opposed to more recent tracks. B u t....I still have some good looking hard copies for £3 available which is funding my first album. That will come through this year “PeNetration”.

In the same year you managed to create contacts with The People’s Army. How did this come about?

Really and truly, my first experience of The Army was in Leicester Square at a Free Palestine demonstration where they had set up an open mic. It was a good look. Then I clocked a flyer which was a Peoples Army night at Jamm (Brixton) with open mic. I reached the night, had a great time, touched mic and was approached by two members who asked if I would like to get involved with the Army and get on a track or two. From that day I try to rep The Army to the fullest, and proud to, real talk.

How do you think it will benefit you as an artist?

Well it’s always good to be surrounded by positive, productive people. It pushes you to better yourself. They say you know a man by the people he goes with...

Despite making CD’s and attending open mics you also like to show your emotions and speak your thoughts. Like you said you attended the Free Palestine protest at Leicester Square, when did you first have an urge, interest or reason to stand up?

As I mentioned, I was always an extremely empathetic person, so whereas some people grow up considering atrocities and serious injustices as normal or something they look past, I couldn’t let it go. I used to study theatre at the BRIT school back in 2005 and that was my first real stage to stand up to at least say “I’m not happy” I started writing numerous plays at Brits too, still ongoing, which is something most people don’t realise I do. I need to read a lot more though; I’d rather stand up with something valid to say than to just stand up.

You’ve now moved down to Portsmouth, what’s the music life like down there?

When I first came to Pompey (Portsmouth) I was slitting my wrists. The music scene here was depressing to a serious level, from what I was experiencing. Primarily very commercial music with no cultural depth in a sleazy, bate club context. The music scene pretty much still seems to be; drink, dance to boring music to impress sketty women, drink, and fight. And even though that mentality isn’t just held in Pompey, I definately didn’t really feel too many community vibes here.

Do you feel it’s changed you as an artist? Has it opened any doors that London wasn’t able to?

Well, as an artist looking for sets, there were no Hip Hop promoters to link for shows because there were no Hip Hop nights at the time. So about a year ago I decided to create the opportunities for myself, and others, by starting a night called The Mic Hide Out, which has now developed into two events, the other being a battle event called Battle ‘amp’! (The Battle of Hampshire) Although as an artist I haven’t really reaped the benefits of my own nights, it has given me a much deeper understanding of how things work in the bigger picture. I still think London has a greater stage for Hip Hop, but as a fairly unrecognised artist it is good to push your name in smaller communities like Portsmouth because it’s faster and easier to create a buzz about your name which could give an artist the momentum and support they need to blow.

Where would we go to see you perform live?

For now, I’m focusing on making good quality tracks before I assume a proper stance on stage. But I get about, live wise; you’ll mainly catch me spittin dubstep alongside We Are Dubist.

We Are Dubist?

We Are Dubist is a 10 strong collective of...bass! We consist of five DJ’s and five MC’s. I think it’s probably right to say we are primarily a Dubstep clique, but to be fair to our DJS’, they are spinnin and tearing up so many genres it would be ridiculous to label them as Dubstep DJ’s. We run our own night’s mainly in London, performed with respected names like Silkie, Benga, Scream, Chef, Quest etc. and we’ve been booked for Outlook Festival this year in Croatia too which should be tasty. Seriously. I won’t drop names premature but dont expect half a heart. I’ve recently confirmed a UK veteran on one track.

Are there any personal favourite tracks that will be played on repeat?

Everything is written, but only four tracks have been put down. This is down to LACK OF BEATS to repeat! If you are a skilled producer contact me. I’m starving for beats. I don’t want to have to release an acapella album! And I will...

The beef between ghetto and p money has escalated for a while now with many a radio sub-low, although this has been going on it has only recently been officially put into the public eye. p money brought this forth to the grime scene fans in the form of a freestyle on grime daily.

after p money brought this out , ghetto was not happy so he came back in the form of all black winter

p money took quite a while to reply to this so ghetto got board and brought this out

p money then had to make his voice heard onece again and brought out the dub response

after p money brought this to the game, ghetto thought to up his level and came with the destruction of the Eiffel tower...

now all we can do is wait to see what happens next .... there is talk going around of a clash happening in a london club soon , maybe at rhythm factory (but who knows )......

Plastic People nightclub is facing closure by Hackney Council and the Police on the grounds of..

"prevention of public nuisance and of crime and disorder"

This is apparently due to the police finding "traces" of cocaine in the toilets and that it is too loud...
However traces of cocaine can be found in many places and have actually been found in the Houses Of Parliament, which the police have not yet threatened with closure....
Plastic People, far from being a rowdy big club full of drunken idiots screwfacin and tryin to have a fight, is actually a small, intimate place, with a serious good sound system, a place where people go to listen to and appreciate good underground bass orientated music....
